Security Features

To ensure the security of patient information and to comply with HIPAA regulations, you might be automatically logged out or locked out of eLabs if any of the following situations occur:

Failed login attempts. After you try to log in five consecutive times unsuccessfully, the system displays an intrusion alert message and locks out your account. Contact the Help Desk to reset your password.

Failed attempts to reset your password. If you cannot remember your password, you can click the Forgot your password? link on the eLabs login page to reset it. After your user name has been validated, you are asked two challenge questions. If you fail to correctly answer these questions the allowed number of times, you must contact the Help Desk to reset your password.

Inactivity timeout. After you have successfully logged in, an inactivity timeout occurs if there is no activity for the amount of time specified for your user account by an administrator (by default, 30 minutes). When an inactivity timeout occurs, you can no longer view the application and you are prompted to re-enter your password.

If you type your password correctly and click Verify, you are returned to the page that you were viewing before the timeout occurred. If you click Log Off, or if you do not respond to the prompt within the amount of time specified, you are logged out of the system and returned to the eLabs login page.

Application timeout. After you have successfully logged in, an application timeout occurs if there is no activity for the amount of time specified for your user account by an administrator (by default, 90 minutes). When an application timeout occurs, you are automatically logged out of the system and returned to the eLabs login page.

The status bar at the bottom of the browser window indicates how many minutes remain before the application timeout occurs.

User account inactivation. If you do not log into eLabs for more than 90 days, your account is automatically locked and you will not be able to log in. Contact your delegated administrator or the Help Desk to reset your password.

User account expiration. If your user account is configured to expire on a certain date, you will not be able to log into eLabs beginning on that date. Contact your delegated administrator or the Help Desk to reactivate your account and extend your access.

Notes:

The password for a demo account can be changed only by the Help Desk.

Inactivity and application timeouts do not affect any print jobs.

If you open the Dictionary Search or Limited Coverage Policy Lookup pages in a separate window or tab, those pages remain open and functional after an inactivity timeout. However, they close automatically after an application timeout. For more information about these pages, see Searching the Dictionary and Looking Up Limited Coverage Policies.
