View the Order Routing Rules

1 In the menu bar, click Setup > Request Order Routing Rule.

Notes:

The Setup menu appears only if you can place orders with your current lab.

The Request Order Routing Rule menu item appears only if your current lab supports this feature.

2 When the Consent dialog box appears, click I Agree.

3 In the Route From area, in the Lab list, click the lab for which you want to view the routing rules.

This list displays all of the labs assigned to you that support order routing rule requests.

4 In the Client list, click the client for which you want to view the routing rules.

This list displays all of the clients that are assigned to you for the specified lab and that support ordering. Your default client appears automatically. For information about changing your default client, see Customize Your User Profile.

5 In the Order Code box, type a complete or partial order code, test name, or panel name.

By default, the system will search for the specified text only until an exact match is found. For example, if you type 123, the search stops as soon as code 123 is found.

To see a list of all of the matching items even if an exact match is found, include an asterisk (*) in the code or name. For example, to find all order codes that begin with 123 (such as 123, 1231, 1232, etc), you could type 123*. To find all order codes that end with 123 (such as 123, 1123, 2123, etc), you could type *123.

Note: You cannot create a routing rule for a custom profile.

6 Click Search.

If you did not include an asterisk in the code or name, and an exact match was found, that order code and test name appear in the Order Code box.

If you included an asterisk in the code or name, or if an exact match was not found, the Order Code Search dialog box displays all of the matching codes. If you did not include an asterisk, the specified search string is highlighted in yellow. Aliases appear in green, handwritten order translations appear in orange, and alternate order codes appear in magenta. (For information about aliases, handwritten order translations, and alternate order codes, see Tests.)

Notes:

Up to 15 matching tests are displayed, although you might have to scroll the list to see all of them. If more than 15 matching tests were found, click More to see additional codes.

If the lab does not support searching by aliases, only handwritten order translations are included in the search results.

If you typed an order code or custom panel code that the specified client is not allowed to use, that code will not appear in the search results.

When you click the appropriate order code, it appears in the Order Code box.

Note: You can select only primary order codes; alternate codes (if any) appear in magenta below the primary code. For example, if a CBC is associated with the primary code 6399 and the alternate code 42A, and you search for CB*, the search results would include 6399 (and all other matching primary codes), and 42A would appear in magenta below 6399.

The middle portion of the page displays a list of any existing rules. (If there are no existing rules, the phrase No Rules Defined appears.) Each rule includes the site ID and name of the lab, the number and name of the client, and the order code and test name.

Notes:

Routing rules that apply to all clients will not appear on this page; it includes only rules that have been defined for the chosen client. If orders for a particular test are currently being routed for all clients, and you do not want this to occur, you can submit a request for a new client-specific routing rule. This will override the existing rule for just that client.

Orders can be routed only once. If you try to create a routing rule for a lab, client, and order code that is already used as a destination for another routing rule, a message advising you of this appears, and you will not be able to create the rule.

For example, if a routing rule already exists to send orders for the lab TMP, client 123, and order code 6399 to the lab MIA, client 321, and order code 6399, then you will not be able to create a routing rule for the lab MIA, client 321, and order code 6399.
