Managing POC Test Results

If an administrator enabled this feature for you, you can enter results for certain point-of-care (POC) tests. These results are added to a review queue so that they can be verified before a preliminary report is produced. This report includes the patient demographic information, test results, and reference range for each test.

After the results have been verified, you can subsequently view them and reprint the report. When retrieving POC test results, you can search by the patient’s name, SSN, or patient ID, as well as the requisition number.

POC reports are handled like any other report generated by a lab. In addition to accessing them via the Point of Care - View/Edit menu item, you can retrieve them like other patient test results. This provides a mechanism for batch printing previously printed reports. In addition, if you use Lightning to receive reports automatically, POC test results are included with any other reports.

Notes:

You must order the test before you can enter the test results. In addition, if your facility does not support entering POC test results, you will not be able to do so, even if you ordered a POC test using that facility.

The report that you produce when you verify and release the POC test results is considered a preliminary report. The final report is produced by the lab, and will replace this preliminary report as soon as it is available. (The preliminary report is always displayed via the Point of Care - View/Edit menu item, but after the final report is received, the preliminary report can no longer be printed.) To view, print, or download the final report, see Accessing Patient Test Results.

If you do not enter results for an ordered POC test within five days, that order might be removed from the order queue.
