Generate a Cumulative Analyte Graph

1 In the menu bar, click Results > Cumulative Graph.

Note: The Results menu appears only if you are allowed to view patient test results. The Cumulative Graph menu item appears only if you are also allowed to view cumulative reports.

2 In the Client list, click the client for which you want to generate a cumulative analyte graph.

This list includes only clients that support cumulative graphing. If your default client supports cumulative graphing, it is selected automatically. You can change your default client via your user profile.

To select more than one client, hold down Ctrl as you click each client. You can also click the first appropriate client, hold down Shift, and then click the last client; all of the clients in between the first and last selected client are also selected.

Tip: To clear all of the data on this page at any time (except for the selected client), click Clear.

3 To limit the graph to a specific date range, follow these steps:

a In the Search By list, click Reported Date to limit the graph to results that were reported during the specified date range, or click Collected/Ordered Date to limit the graph to orders that were placed during the specified date range or for which specimens were collected during that range.

b Type the appropriate dates in the Start Date and End Date boxes, or click the date on the calendar.

For example, to limit the graph to data from the first three months of the year, you would type 01/01/2019 in the Start Date box and 03/31/2019 in the End Date box.

Tip: You can use any of the following shortcuts to specify the date:

Type t for today’s date.

Type y for yesterday’s date.

Type t-# (where # is the number of days prior to today). For example, type t-7 to specify one week prior to today.

4 In the Go Back list, click the number of previous reports (1–10) that you want to include.

Note: The Start Date, End Date, and Go Back values interact to determine what information is included in the cumulative analyte graph. For example, if you include a start date but omit an end date, and indicate that you want to go back five reports, the cumulative analyte graph will include data from the first five reports after the start date.

The most limiting option is used in generating the graph. For example, if a patient had tests performed every day for ten days, and you indicate that you want to go back ten reports but provide a start and end date for only five days, the graph would include only the five test results from the specified five days.

5 In the Patient list, do one of the following:

Click SSN or PID, and in the adjacent box type at least the first four characters of the patient’s SSN (with or without the hyphens) or patient ID.

Click Name, and in the adjacent box type the first three letters of the patient's last name, a comma, and the first letter of the first name.

In the displayed list, click the appropriate item.

Note: If you click a patient whose SSN is associated with another patient record (for example, if the patient’s last name has changed), a message advises you that multiple patients have the same number. You can generate a cumulative analyte graph only if the SSN is associated with only one patient record.

In addition, if you click a patient whose patient ID is not the same for all of the selected clients, the graph will include results only for the clients that use the specified patient ID.

Any SSN becomes masked as soon as you move to another field, and only the last four digits are visible. To see the number again, click in the box.

If analytes have been reported for the patient during the specified date range, the patient’s name, sex, and date of birth appear below the Selection Criteria area, and the analytes that have been measured for this patient appear in the Patient Ordered row on the Analytes tab. If more than five analytes have been measured for the patient, multiple Patient Ordered rows appear. (If no analytes have been reported for the patient during the specified range, a message appears. Click Clear and change the selection criteria.)

The Analytes tab also displays a row for each group of your favorite analytes. (To manage your favorite analytes at this time, click Edit Analyte Grid at the bottom of the Analytes tab, complete the Customized Cumulative Grid Definition page, and then click Done. For more information, see Manage Favorite Analytes.)

6 On the Analytes tab, click up to five analytes.

The analyte is highlighted, and a check mark appears next to it.

If the same analyte appears in multiple locations (for example, in both a Patient Ordered row and among your favorites), clicking the analyte in one area automatically selects it in the other. Likewise, if you click the analyte again to remove the check mark in one area, the corresponding check mark is removed in the other area.

7 Click Graph.

The Graph area displays a graph of all of the analyte measurements, and the Results tab displays a list with the exact value for each data point on the graph.

The legend below the graph indicates the color used for each analyte, along with its code and name.

Note: If one or more test results have been archived and cannot be retrieved at this time, a message advises you of this. You can try again later to retrieve the data.

8 Do one or more of the following:

Print the graph. Click Print, make any appropriate changes on the Print dialog box, and then click Print. In addition to the graph itself, the printout includes the patient’s name, sex, and date of birth, as well as the data that appears on the Results tab.

Display additional details about a particular measurement. Position the pointer over the appropriate data point in the graph.

View the report for a particular measurement. Click the appropriate item in the Specimen ID column on the Results tab.

On the Print dialog box, make any appropriate changes and then click Print, or click Cancel if you simply want to view the report, which appears in a separate window.

The procedure for browsing or printing the report varies, depending on your version of Adobe Reader.

To return to the cumulative analyte graph, click Close, or simply close the separate window.

View the reference range for an analyte. Click the range in the Reference Range column on the Results tab. The reference range (that is, the values that 95% of the lab’s tested population fall into) appears as a shaded area in the graph.

Graph different analytes. To generate a new graph with different analytes for this patient, click the Analytes tab and repeat steps 6 and 7.
