Add a Custom Profile

1 In the menu bar, click Setup > Custom Profile Definition.

Note: The Setup menu appears only if you can place orders with your current lab.

2 If you are accessing an IOP facility, in the Client Number list, click the client for which you want to add a custom profile.

This list includes only those clients for which ordering is enabled.

If you are accessing a PSC facility, in the Client Number box, type the number of the client for which you want to add a custom profile, and press Tab.

If you do not know the complete client number, follow these steps:

a Click the Search link.

b In the Search by area, click the appropriate option button (Name, Number, or Phone).

c In the adjacent box, type a portion of the client’s name, client number, or telephone number.

d Click Search.

All clients that match the specified information appear in the search results list, which displays the client number; client name and street address; and telephone number and zip code.

e To select a specific client, click the client in the list.

3 In the Profile Code box, type the code that identifies this profile.

The profile code can be any combination of letters, numbers, and other symbols. However, carets (^), ampersands (&), underscores (_), bars (|), back slashes (\), and double quotation marks ("), are not supported. When you move to the next field, the profile code is automatically converted to uppercase characters.

4 In the Profile Description box, type a description for this profile.

5 Click Add.

The profile appears in the Existing Custom Profiles area.

6 If you know the complete order code for the test that you want to add to this profile, clear the Show Quick List check box, type the code in the Add Order Code box, and then press Enter.

The order code and test name appear in the Components for area.

If you do not know the complete order code, do one or more of the following:

Display a list of order codes that begin with specific characters:

a Select the Show Quick List check box.

b In the Add Order Code box, type the first three characters of the order code.

Any codes that begin with the characters you typed appear in a pop-up list.

c To add a code in this list to the profile, click the appropriate item.

Search for the test:

a Click Search.

b Select the Code/Description or Alias check box (or both).

If you select only the Code/Description check box, the search results will be limited to tests whose code or name match the specified text. If you select the Alias check box, the search results will include aliases and handwritten order translations as well.

Clearing both check boxes is the same as selecting only the Code/Description check box.

Note: If the lab does not support searching by aliases, only handwritten order translations are included in the search results.

c In the adjacent box, type a portion of the order code, test name, or alias.

d Click Search.

Any tests that match the information you typed appear at the bottom of the dialog box. Exact matches appear first in the list.

e To add a displayed test to the profile, click the order code.

The test appears in the Components for area and is now included in the profile.

Notes:

To view details about a listed test or panel, click the order code. The Directory of Services dialog box displays the preferred specimen, minimum volume, preferred container and temperature, and other information. For a panel, the order codes and names of the component tests are also listed. For some labs, a Proper Order of Draw link appears on this dialog box, providing access to important information about drawing and handling specimens.

When you have finished viewing this information, click Close Window.

If a test is associated with multiple order codes, only the primary code can be added to the profile. For example, if a CBC is associated with the primary code 6399 and the alternate code 42A, and you type 42A and press Tab when the Show Quick List check box is cleared, 6399 appears in the list instead. Likewise, if you type 42A when the Show Quick List check box is selected or search for 42A, 6399 appears in the Quick List or search results, and 42A appears in brackets in front of the test name. When you click this item in the Quick List or search results, 6399 is added to the profile.

7 Repeat step 6 until the profile contains all of the appropriate tests (up to the maximum number supported by the lab).

8 To create additional profiles, repeat steps 27.
