Retrieve Patient Test Results

1 Do one of the following:

In the menu bar, click Results > Patient Results.

In the information bar, click Home and then click the New Results link in the Quick View area.

In the information bar, click Home and then click the Result Advisory Messages link in the Quick View area.

On the Patient Results page, the New Reports Available to View: Combined Total area displays the total number of new reports available for all of the clients that you can access. (If more than 100 new reports are available, this area displays 100+).

If you clicked the Result Advisory Messages link on the Home page, a list of all new reports for all of the clients that you can access that have advisory messages is generated automatically.

If you clicked Results > Patient Results or the New Results link on the Home page, and you want to retrieve all new test results for your default client, go to step 8. Otherwise, go to the next step.

Notes:

These links and menu item appear only if you are allowed to view patient test results. In addition, the Result Advisory Messages link appears only if the lab supports that feature.

You can change your default client via your user profile.

2 In the Clients list, click the client whose patient test results you want to view, print, or download.

The number in brackets to the left of the client name indicates the number of new reports associated with that client. (If more than 100 new reports are available, this displays 100+.)

To access reports for more than one client, hold down Ctrl as you click each client in the list. You can also click the first appropriate client, hold down Shift, and then click the last client; all of the clients in between the first and last selected client are also selected.

Tip: You can restore the default search criteria at any time by clicking Reset.

3 To limit the search to reports associated with a specific patient, physician, requisition number, or lab reference ID, follow these steps:

a In the Search list, click the data to search by:

Patient Name

Patient SSN

Requisition

Patient PID

Physician Name

Lab Reference ID

Accession

Note: If you are accessing the Employer Solutions (QTN) lab, do not click Patient Name, Patient SSN, Patient PID, or Physician Name. This information is not included in these reports, and specifying any data for them will return no matching results.

b In the By box, type at least the first letter of the patient’s last name, the patient’s complete SSN (with or without the hyphens) or patient ID, the complete requisition number, or any characters in the physician’s name or the lab reference ID.

Note: You can see the SSN as you type it, but it becomes masked as soon as you move to another field, and only the last four digits are visible. To see the number again, click in the By box.

4 To limit the search to results that were reported during a specific time period, in the From-To Date boxes, type the appropriate dates, or click the date on the calendar.

For example, to retrieve results that were reported today, you would type today’s date in both boxes. To retrieve results reported during an entire week, you would type Monday’s date in the first box and Friday’s date in the second box.

Tip: You can use any of the following shortcuts to specify the date:

Type t for today’s date.

Type y for yesterday’s date.

Type t-# (where # is the number of days prior to today). For example, type t-7 to specify one week prior to today.

5 In the Result Type list, click the type of results that you want to retrieve:

Abnormal (only reports with a result outside the reference range, or a microbiology result that was clinically significant)

Normal (only reports for which all of the results were within the reference range, or microbiology results that were not clinically significant)

All (all reports regardless of whether the results were abnormal or normal).

Note: If the lab supports advisory messages, click All to ensure that you see all of them.

6 In the Report Status list, click the type of reports that you want to retrieve:

Finals Only (only reports for which all of the tests have been completed)

Partials Only (only reports for which not all of the tests have been completed)

All (all reports regardless of whether or not all of the tests have been completed)

7 In the Print Status list, click the kind of reports that you want to retrieve:

New (only reports that have not yet been printed)

Previously Printed (only reports that were printed previously)

Notes:

A report is considered printed if you attempted to print it or manually marked it as printed, even if you did not actually print it.

Reports imported from another lab or client might be handled as new reports or previously printed reports, depending on circumstances related to the original client.

8 Click List Reports.

A list of reports that match the specified criteria appears at the bottom of the page.

Note: If more than 1000 reports meet the specified search criteria, only the first 1000 reports are displayed, and a message advises you to narrow your search criteria.

For all labs, each listed item includes the following information:

Requisition number

Note: For reports generated by another lab or for another client, a new requisition number is generated for the current client. You must view, print, or download the report to see the original requisition number.

Accession number (that is, the number used by the lab to connect the order and test results, or the number automatically assigned to POC test results)

Note: If a particular accession number has been used before, the date that the report was generated is added to the end of the accession number to ensure that it is unique.

Lab reference ID (if any)

Date that the results were reported

Report status (Final if all of the ordered tests have been completed, or Partial if one or more of the tests have not yet been completed)

Result status (whether the test results were normal or abnormal)

Note: If it was not possible to determine whether the results were normal or abnormal, the Report Status column displays See Report.

For most labs, each listed item also includes the following information:

Physician’s name (NG if the name was not given)

Patient’s name

For Employer Solutions reports, instead of the physician’s and patient’s name, each listed item includes the primary ID, which is the number given to the patient or employer to identify the results.

Tips:

To change the sort order, click the appropriate column heading. Clicking that column heading again reverses the sort order.

The navigation area displays the total number of reports retrieved and the number of the reports that you are currently viewing. The Page area displays the number of pages that are available and the number of the page that you are currently viewing.

To go to a particular page, type the page number in the box and press Enter. You can also click the arrow buttons to go to the next or previous page, or to the beginning or end of the list (if applicable).

To specify the number of reports to display on the page, click 15, 30, or 60 in the list in the navigation area.
