Update an Existing User

1 In the information bar, click Admin > User Maintenance.

Note: The User Maintenance menu item appears only if an administrator enabled this feature for you.

2 In the Group ID list, click the group to which the user that you want to update belongs.

The Group ID list displays the group description followed by the group ID in parentheses.

Note: If the user belongs to more than one group, any changes that you make for one group are automatically made for all of the groups.

3 In the Users list, click the user whom you would like to modify, inactivate, or activate.

The Users list displays each user’s full name followed by that person’s user name in parentheses. As soon as you click a user in the list, the page displays information about that user.

4 Do one or more of the following:

Field

Description

Full Name

Type the person’s complete name (LastName, FirstName).

Email Address

Type the person’s email address.

Phone Number

Type the person’s telephone number.

For international telephone numbers, type 011 followed by any number of digits.

For US telephone numbers, type the complete telephone number (including the area code); you can use any format, but it will be converted to hyphens. For example, if you type (513) 555.5555, it will be converted to 513-555-5555. You can optionally include an X followed by up to four digits to indicate an extension; this will be appended to the end of the telephone number (such as 513-555-5555X1234).

Expiration Date

To automatically inactivate this person’s access to eLabs on a certain date, type the appropriate date.

This can be helpful in managing access for temporary employees.

Password

To change the user’s password, click Generate New Password.

A new password appears in the Password box. (You can use only these automatically generated passwords; you cannot specify your own.)

Tip: You can copy the text in the Password box if you would like to email this password to the user.

Active

To activate an inactive user, click the Active option button.

To inactivate an active user, click the Inactive option button.

Note: If you inactivate a user who is currently logged in, that person’s session will not be disrupted, but that person will not be able to log in again after logging out.

5 Click Update.

If you changed the user’s password, that user will be prompted to change the password again at the next login.
