Managing Favorite Generic Tests

If you can place orders with at least one generic lab, you can create groups of favorites to organize the tests that you use in any manner that you prefer. For example, you might create one group for each different type of specimen (such as blood, urine, and stool) and then add to each group the appropriate tests for that specimen type. Alternatively, you might create one group for all of the routine tests that you typically order, and another group for more rare tests. (Depending on the generic lab, you might need to add generic tests to eLabs manually before you can identify any favorites.)

If a client is associated with multiple generic labs, you can create a unique list of favorites for each one.

You can customize your groups of favorite generic tests either before you place any orders (via the Setup menu) or when you place an order via the legacy Order Entry page. When you manage your favorites via the Setup menu, you can create only eight groups, and each group name can be only eight characters long.

When you manage your favorites via the legacy Order Entry page, you can create up to 20 groups, and each group name can be up to 15 characters long. However, you will be able to see only the first 8 groups when you manage your favorites via the Setup menu. When you retrieve or add the patient, make sure that the patient uses a generic carrier.

Notes:

You can manage your favorite generic tests only if you can place orders with your current lab.

You cannot manage your favorite generic tests if you are currently accessing a non-electronic lab.

You cannot manage your favorite generic tests via streamlined order entry. That order entry mechanism uses non‑electronic labs rather than generic labs, and favorite non-electronic tests are handled like any other favorite tests.
