Managing Custom Profiles

For many labs, a single order code can represent a collection of tests for multiple analytes. These are typically referred to as panels. For example, the code 7600 for a lipid panel might include tests for LDL, HDL, HDL‑C, total cholesterol, and triglycerides. In some cases, the components of a panel can be ordered separately; in other cases, they cannot.

Some labs offer two types of panels: standard panels (which can be ordered by any client) and custom panels (which typically begin with a letter and can be ordered only by specific clients). Custom panels are sometimes referred to as ease-of-order panels.

If these predefined panels do not meet your needs, you can streamline the order entry process by creating your own custom profiles, sometimes referred to as ease‑of-use panels. Custom profiles can include individual tests, panels, or both. For example, you might create a custom profile that includes only LDL, HDL, and triglycerides, or one that includes both a lipid panel and an apolipoprotein evaluation.

When you place an order, you can specify the custom profile code rather than having to specify each test individually. You can also include custom profile codes among your favorites. Custom profiles are unique to each client, and you can create as many as you need.

After you have created a custom profile, you can add or remove tests in it, or delete the entire profile at any time. Editing or deleting a custom profile does not affect any existing orders. In addition, if you delete a custom profile that is included among your favorites, the profile is automatically removed from each affected group.

Notes:

This feature is not available to contracted phlebotomists.

You can create and manage custom profiles only if you can place orders with your current lab. If ordering is disabled for a particular client, you cannot create or manage custom profiles for that client.

For some labs, the same test can be associated with multiple order codes. For example, a CBC might be associated with both codes 6399 and 42A. However, only one code is considered the primary code; all others are considered alternate codes.

Custom profiles can contain only primary codes. If you try to add an alternate code to the profile, the primary code will be added instead. If the primary code already exists in the profile, a message advises you that the code is already included.

Alternate order codes in your custom profile can also be automatically converted to primary codes by an administrator.

If you add a test to a custom profile, and that test subsequently becomes unavailable for that client or lab, the test will not appear in the custom profile until access is restored.

Custom profiles cannot contain generic tests.
