Verifying Insurance Eligibility

During order entry, eligibility verification occurs only under the following circumstances:

Your user account was configured by an administrator to perform this action.

Bill Type is set to Insurance.

The patient’s primary or secondary carrier has provided Quest Diagnostics with eligibility data.

No matter how your user account is configured, you can manually check a patient’s insurance eligibility at any time. In addition, if the carrier has an independent practice association (IPA) sub-plan that restricts coverage, you can determine whether or not the patient is covered according to the terms of that sub-plan.

You can display the Eligibility Query page in either your current browser window or a separate window or tab. (Whether the page appears in a window or tab depends on your browser and its configuration.) Displaying the page in a separate window or tab enables you to verify the patient’s insurance eligibility without interrupting work on your current page.

Note: This feature is not available to contracted phlebotomists.
