Managing Generic or Client-Defined AOE Questions

If a Quest Diagnostics or universal lab needs additional information in order to perform a particular test, any appropriate ask-at-order-entry (AOE) questions are added to the system automatically. However, for generic and client-defined tests, any appropriate AOE questions must be added to the system manually.

For generic tests, you can define AOE questions only if at least one of your assigned clients at the currently chosen lab supports generic orders. Generic AOE questions can be defined for both standard generic tests that were added to the system automatically, as well as generic tests that were added to the system manually. For manually added tests, the test must be active. Although standard generic tests are the same for all clients, any AOE questions must still be defined on a client-by-client basis. You can define generic AOE questions either before you place any orders (via the Setup menu) or when you place an order via the legacy Order Entry page.

For client-defined tests, you can define AOE questions only if you can access a non-electronic lab that supports client-defined tests, and only if the test is active. Any client-defined AOE questions should be set up before the affected tests are ordered (via the Setup menu), since these AOE questions cannot be added during order entry.

You can define as many AOE questions as you want, for as many tests as you want. When defining AOE questions, you can add a General Information box, one or more specific questions, or both. When you place an order via the legacy Order Entry page, the General Information box always appears at the bottom of the AOE tab on the Verify Order Code Info dialog box, but you can specify the order in which any other AOE questions appear. In streamlined order entry, the General Information box always appears after all other AOE questions in the Ask at Order Entry Questions (AOEs) area.

During order entry, responses are required for all generic and client-defined AOE questions, although none of the responses are validated. For example, if an AOE question asks for a date, the response would not be limited to numeric characters. All responses to AOE questions appear on the requisition.

You can edit or delete a generic or client-defined AOE question at any time. Any changes that you make have no effect on filed orders, only on future ones.

Notes:

The streamlined Order Entry page does not support generic labs or tests.

You can manage generic or client-defined AOE questions only if you can place orders with your current lab.

You cannot define generic AOE questions via streamlined order entry. That order entry mechanism uses non-electronic labs rather than generic labs.
