Manage Standing Orders for a Specific Patient via Streamlined Order Entry
1 Access streamlined order entry and retrieve a patient as described in Initiate a Lab Order.
Note: If the legacy Order Entry page appears, and no banner with a link to streamlined order entry appears at the top, see Manage Standing Orders for a Specific Patient via Legacy Order Entry. |
2 In the Patient’s Pending Orders title bar, click Get Pending Orders.
The section displays a list of the patient’s held, scheduled, and standing orders:
Notes: • If the patient has no pending orders, the Patient’s Pending Orders section does not appear. • After you click Get Pending Orders, the number of pending orders for the patient appears in parentheses in the Patient’s Pending Orders title bar. You can subsequently hide these orders by clicking Hide Pending Orders, and see them again by clicking View Pending Orders. • Generic orders are not included. To manage those orders, see Manage Standing Orders for a Specific Patient via Legacy Order Entry. • To view a list of the tests and diagnoses in the order, position the pointer over . This also displays the frequency of the standing order, the date when the last specimen was collected (or the phrase first draw if a specimen has not yet been collected), the start and expiration dates, and how many days remain before the standing order expires (0 for an expired standing order). If any of the order codes are invalid, a message appears instead of the test name. • The date in the Draw Date column is determined by the start date and the frequency of the standing order. For example, if a weekly standing order is created on Monday, and the specimen should be collected every Wednesday, then the initial draw date would be the following Wednesday’s date. However, if the first specimen is collected on Tuesday, then the next draw date would be a week from Wednesday. In addition, if an instance of a standing order was filed with another lab (for example, if the patient went to a Quest Diagnostics PSC while traveling), the draw date is updated accordingly. If the specimen should be collected in the future, the draw date appears in bold red text. • For orders created via eLabs, the Created By column includes the user name of the person who created the order. For third-party-orders, this column displays EMR. • If or appears in the Status column, you can position the pointer over that symbol to see the Companion Diagnostics program name and national client number. • If any information is too long to display in its entirety, an ellipsis (...) appears. You can position the pointer over the displayed information to see the complete information. |
3 Do one of the following:

b If the standing order has a future start date, or if an order has already been placed within the specified interval (for example, if the specimen is to be collected once a week, and you try to file an order for a second time in the same week), a message advises you of this.
To place the order now anyway, in the Comment box, type the reason for filing the order now, and then click OK.
Note: This message does not appear if the standing order frequency is daily and the interval is less than every five days. |
