Manage Favorites via Order Entry
1 As described in Placing an Order, initiate an order and add or retrieve a patient of the client whose favorites you want to manage.
To manage favorite carriers, click Insurance in the Bill Type list if it is not already selected.
Notes: • If you retrieve a patient who uses a generic carrier, you might need to add generic tests to eLabs manually before you can manage your favorite generic tests. In addition, your favorite generic tests apply only to the generic lab associated with the generic carrier. • Insurance appears in the Bill Type list only if the specified client supports it. |
2 To manage favorite carriers, in the Insurance area, click either Add Insurance Information or Edit.
To manage favorite diagnoses or tests, click Next.
3 Do one or more of the following:
Note: For diagnoses, perform these tasks in the Diagnosis area. For tests, perform them in the Order Codes area. |
Click Add New Tab, type a name for the group, and then click Save.
Note: You can have up to 20 groups. For diagnoses, the Patient Specific and Client Favorites groups count toward that maximum. For tests, the Client Favorites group counts toward that maximum (except for generic labs, which do not have a Client Favorites group). |
a In the Order Codes area, click Add New Tab.
b Select the Copy from Specialty Grid check box.
Note: This check box appears only if the lab supports specialty groups. |
c Click the appropriate group in the list.
The name of the selected group appears in the Tab Name box, but you can change it as needed.
d To view a list of the tests in the selected group, click Preview.
e Click Save.
Notes: • After you copy a group from a specialty grid, you can perform any actions on your copy, such as renaming the group, adding or removing favorites, and so forth. • If any changes are made to the specialty grid by an administrator, those changes are not automatically made to your copy. To receive those changes, you must repeat the process of copying the group from the specialty grid. However, if an order code copied from a specialty grid later becomes restricted, that code is automatically removed from your favorites if the client does cannot use that code. • You cannot manage your copy of a specialty grid group via the Favorites Maintenance page. |
Notes: • You cannot set the Patient Specific group as your default diagnosis group. However, if there is no other default group, and a diagnosis is associated with the patient, the Patient Specific group always opens automatically. • You cannot set Companion Program as your default group. • You cannot set a default carrier group. |
a Click the group that you want to open by default.
b Right-click the group, and then click Set as Default.
If a check mark appears next to Set as Default, the selected group is already the default group. If you click Set as Default when a check mark appears, the check mark disappears, and there will be no default group (unless you set a different group as the default group).
a Click the group that you want to rename.
Note: You cannot rename the Patient Specific, Client Favorites, or Companion Program group. |
b Right-click the group, and then click Rename this Tab.
c Type a new name for the group.
d Click Rename.
a To add a favorite carrier, type at least two characters of the carrier’s name, and then click Search.
To add a favorite diagnosis or test, type at least two characters of the diagnosis name, ICD code, test name, or order code, and then click Search. By default, the system will search for the specified text only until an exact match is found. (For example, if you type C85
, the search stops as soon as code C85 is found, and only that code appears in the search results.) To see a list of all of the matching items even if an exact match is found, include an asterisk (*) in the code or name. For example, to find all codes that begin with C85 (such as C851, C8510, C8511, etc), you could type C85*
. To find all diagnosis codes that end with 85 (such as A185, A1885, A3685, etc), you could type *85.
A list of up to 15 matching items appears. If more than 15 matching items were found, click More to see the additional ones, or type more characters and then click Search again.
Notes: • To add a diagnosis or test that appears in the Client Favorites group to a new or existing group, click the Client Favorites group and go to step b. • When adding diagnoses, keep the following in mind: If an asterisk (*) appears next to a diagnosis name, you can add that diagnosis to the list of favorites, but if a physician or hospital staff member places an order for this client, that person will be prompted to provide a higher degree of specificity when adding that code to an order. • When adding tests, keep the following in mind: • If the lab does not support searching by aliases, only handwritten order translations are included in the search results. • If you typed an order code or custom panel code that the specified client is not allowed to use, that code will not appear in the search results. • If you type a custom profile description, or a partial custom profile code, or use an asterisk with a custom profile description or code, the profile will not be found. You must type the complete custom profile code. • If the patient uses a generic carrier, and the associated generic lab does not use a standard compendium of tests, you must add the test to the system before you can add it to your favorites. • If you retrieved a Medicare patient, you cannot add a non-conforming order code to your favorites. If the retrieved patient does not use Medicare, you can add a non-conforming order code to your favorites, but you will not be able to use that order code with a Medicare patient. • When adding carriers, keep the following in mind: • You might be able to search by key words such as the carrier’s mnemonic, address, or other terms. • The search results do not include generic or custom carriers. To add a generic or custom carrier to your favorites, see Manage Favorites via Setup. • If the carrier does not exist in the system, you might be able to request a custom carrier. |
b Click next to the item that you want to add to your favorites, and then do one of the following:
Note: The menu icon does not appear next to written diagnoses. Those cannot be added as favorites. |
• To add the favorite to an existing group, position the pointer over Add to Existing Tab and then click the appropriate group. If no groups exist, No Tabs Defined appears instead; use the following procedure to add a new group.
Notes: • You cannot add any diagnoses or tests to the Client Favorites group. The 15 most frequently used diagnoses or tests appear there automatically • You cannot manually add a diagnosis to the Patient Specific group; only physicians and hospital staff members can do that. However, whenever you order a test, any specified diagnosis is automatically added to that group. • You cannot add any tests to the Companion Program group. |
• To add the favorite to a new group, click Add to New Tab, type a name for the group, and then click Save.
a Click the group whose favorites you want to sort.
Notes: • You cannot sort the diagnoses in the Patient Specific group. Only physicians and hospital staff members can do that. • You cannot sort the items in the Client Favorites or Companion Program group. The items in the Client Favorites group are automatically listed in descending order by their frequency of use. The tests in the Companion Program group are automatically listed in the order in which they were added to the program by an administrator. |
b Right-click the group, and then position the pointer over Sort Codes in this Tab.
c Do one of the following:
• To sort the favorites by ICD code, order code, or carrier mnemonic, click By Code.
• To sort the favorites by name, click By Name.
Notes: • Diagnosis and order codes are sorted first by length. For example, if you sort the codes 123, 1234, and 234, the order will be 123, 234, and 1234, since the three-digit codes are sorted before the four-digit codes. Codes that begin with a letter rather than a number are sorted alphabetically at the end of the list, after the numerical codes. • For carriers, the mnemonics do not appear in your list of favorites, but you can see them in the adjacent list of carriers. |
