Managing a Filed or Pending Order Using the Bar Code
When an order is filed, scheduled, or put on PSC hold, the requisition or PSC hold confirmation letter includes a 1D bar code.
You can use the Order Entry page to retrieve the order by scanning or typing the bar code number. With this procedure, you can edit a filed, scheduled, or held order, or file a scheduled or held order. When you edit one of these orders, you can typically change any aspect of the order except for the lab, client, or patient’s SSN or patient ID.
Notes: • You cannot use this procedure to retrieve generic orders, third-party orders, or standing orders. However, you can use it to edit a filed instance of a standing order. • You can use this procedure to retrieve filed or pending orders only for your assigned labs, and only if ordering has not been disabled for the associated client. • If the order that you retrieve included an alternate order code, that code is automatically replaced with the primary order code. In addition, if you try to add an alternate code to the order, it is automatically replaced with the primary code. |
If the order was filed fewer than seven days ago, and the lab allows online order editing, you can use this procedure to change almost any aspect of the order. The changes are sent to the lab as soon as you file the order.
Notes: • You cannot use this procedure to edit an accessioned order; accessioned requisitions do not include bar codes. For information about editing an accessioned order, see Editing a Filed Order. • If the filed order was part of a batch, you cannot use this procedure to edit the order, even if the lab supports online order editing. For information about changing this type of order, see Edit a Filed Order (Online Edits Not Allowed). • Whether or not the lab allows online order editing, if the lab does not have an email address for Client Services, you cannot change any filed order for that lab. • You cannot use this procedure to reprint a requisition or cancel a filed order. For information about performing those tasks, see Viewing or Reprinting a Requisition or Labels and Canceling a Filed Order. |
For scheduled orders, you can use this procedure to file or edit the order, but not to delete it. For information about deleting a scheduled order, see Managing Scheduled Orders.
For orders that were put on PSC hold, you can use this procedure to file or edit the order, but not to delete it from the hold list. For information about deleting a held order, see Managing Held Orders.
